Photographing Babies

This post is loooong overdue. Hey, kind of like my bundle of joy. She was overdue! How fitting :P

But seriously.

I should have written this months ago. But between trying to get some rest, learning how to be a mother, and staring in amazement at this little wonder we call Rowan, I haven’t had much time. She’ll be 5 months old in 10 days. 5 months. Whoa. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. And really, we’ve only had a few crying nights (that’s me, not her, haha). I think we’ve been blessed with such a wonderful baby.

These photos were taken when she was about 10 or 11 days old. Her first official newborn photo shoot. Come to think of it, her only newborn shoot. It really does go so fast. With her turning 5 months in a matter of days, it’s time to grab the camera and get her in front of the lens again. She’s changed so much since these were taken.

Having your own baby model makes learning newborn photography so much easier. You’re more relaxed with the infant in front of the lens. We learned they key to success is feed baby, THEN do pictures, haha. Makes everyone happy.

Now that she’s getting a little bigger and exploring the world more, I see so many opportunities to capture her little features. It’s inspiring as a photographer and I want to document everything she does. At the same time I’m trying to be an active participant. I will just have to learn to master them both at the simultaneously.

Anyway, it’s got me thinking about offering some new types of packages to parents. Something to help document baby’s first year. A newborn shoot with a 6 month shoot and then a one year shoot. I think. I still have to play with the idea. I digress.

Enjoy my first crack at newborn photography!
